Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 was a slow burn for me because I’m actually not good at video games and didn’t make any progress until a friend suggested I install some mods. Suddenly I stopped sobbing in Discord about being murdered by anything and everything in Act I and I could start enjoying the story, which is a pretty good one! I think? Honestly I can’t think of a lot of games where the ending truly doesn’t matter and the whole fighting a giant brain thing is probably the least consequential part of the journey. Give me more of the gay dragon lore over some gross brains. God, this game is gross, too, forgot to mention that. Everyone I talk to is truly surprised I made it to the end and even went back for more because the gore is so, so gross.

Re: the inconsequential brain battle: please understand that the most consequential part of the game for me was romancing Halsin. Do It For Halsin. Imagine the rage coursing through my body when I realized that he’s too focused on the actual story narrative that he can’t even consider messing around until the land has been healed or whatever. Romancing Halsin was my end credits and everything else an interesting “right, I guess we have to do stuff here.” In my last playthrough, we’re very happy with our wagonloads of orphans in the formerly ruined wastelands where real estate is cheap, plenty, and horrifying.

Everyone else is great, too. Firmly team Lae’zel and githyanki independence.
