Last Baldur’s Gate update, I mused a lot about switching over to paladin and the angst of giving up on druid, etc. Long story short: I switched back to paladin and it’s awesome, no notes, paladin forever.
New issue is that I reached Act 2 and the shadow-cursed lands and… then I stopped. I opened up a checklist of everything to do in Act 2 that I followed the first time around. I entered through the mountain pass and immediately got the pixie’s blessing so I could skip worrying about that. I made it to the Last Light Inn, harassed Dammon for Karlach’s infernal engine, a bunch of armor, talked to the ox, talked to Jaheira, started the Art Cullough quest, and then… stopped.
I think this is two-fold:
- Now that I know the scope and scale of the game, I know how many quests and tasks there are to do if I want The Full Experience again. I can probably drop some quests here and there, but even the ones I do need to do for Act 3 are a lot!
- I started binging 9-1-1 on Hulu.
What does 9-1-1 starring Angela Bassett and my random older white dude crush Peter Krause have to do with anything? Well, in the spirit of the age, I’ve taken two absorbing two kinds of media at once. Most nights I’ve been playing FE3H on my couch with my Switch connected to the TV and my iPad blasting 9-1-1 nearby. My desktop running BG3 is in another room and requires almost all of my attention. I can focus on one thing at a time (and honestly I do most of the time, when that thing is 9-1-1 and I’ve almost caught up on seven seasons in two weeks) but… what if I don’t want to?
And the scope/scale thing also applies to FE3H. I might pause there too once the timeskip happens because I know the Golden Deer run is much longer than the others and I can already see the road ahead and how long it stretches out.
Even if FE3H is only about 20 hours shorter than BG3 (“only”), there’s so much scale and detail in BG3’s Act 2 and then even more in Act 3. It’s intimidating as hell! So we’ll see how the hyperfixations turn out here: once I’m caught up with 9-1-1, once I get back from this long weekend away: WHO WILL WIN THE BATTLE FOR MY ATTENTION???? How exciting to be courted like this!!
